Escape to the Whiteface Region, a charming destination where the crisp air, vibrant foliage, and cozy seasonal vibes come together for an unforgettable autumn retreat. Whether you’re craving the great outdoors, delicious comfort food, or foggy mornings with warm cups of coffee, this 3-day itinerary is packed with everything you need for a relaxing and memorable trip. From scenic drives through fiery fall landscapes to quaint local spots for autumn-inspired brews and hearty meals, your next seasonal reprieve is all planned out. Find everything you love about fall in one place and start prepping for your mini-cation to the Whiteface Region!

Day 1: Fall brews and comfort food

What better way to kick off a weekend of relaxation in the Adirondacks than fall cider, especially when it's hard cider! Stop in at Sandy's in Upper Jay to try locally-crafted ciders and beverages certain to satisfy your thirst for fall. After an afternoon of cider sampling, be sure to dine at local hot spots such as the HT TavernTwisted Raven, Rudy's Scar Bar & Grill, or Cadence Lodge. There's nothing quite like the warmth and comfort of wholesome, filling dishes and a welcoming atmosphere. With so many dining options to choose from, you can't go wrong! The dim lighting and rustic wooden interiors of an Adirondack tavern make for a memorable dining experience, especially paired with an afternoon of cider sipping. Whether you're looking for a quiet dinner or a lively evening with friends, these eateries are the perfect way to savor the tastes of autumn.

After a long day of traveling and fall exploring, find the perfect place to lay your head at one of the Whiteface Region's many lodging options. Nothing beats the cozy comfort of a bed and breakfast or boutique inn. Wake up to home cooked breakfasts including apple pie pancakes, breakfast burritos, and farm-made granola when you stay at the Whiteface Farm! Choose to stay in your own private guest side house at the Ice Jam Inn or, if you prefer lodging nestled along the banks of the Ausable River, opt to stay at the ADK Trail Inn. No matter where you decide to stay, you're sure to start your next morning waking up to crisp mountain air and stunning vistas covered in orange and golden foliage.

Day 2: Cozy mornings, scenic drives, and crafty pit stops

Wake up early and treat yourself to a beautiful fall sunrise in the Whiteface Region! Head to the Jay Covered Bridge to watch the mist rise from the water and the fog clear from the mountains.  Make a true morning out of it and bring a thermos of coffee, throw a cozy blanket down of the grass, and soak up the early hours of fall. This scenic backdrop is an incredible autumn photo opportunity, perfect for capturing the vibrant fall colors and seasonal beauty of this region. Then, fill up on breakfast at Adirondack Mountain Coffee Cafe, where the smell of roasting beans, fresh baked goods, and cooking bacon will get you in the fall spirit.

Spend your afternoon exploring a perfect blend of agritourism and the arts on a scenic driving tour of the region! Along the way, you'll have the chance to visit local farms offering fresh, seasonal produce—where you can pick up everything from rich cheese to colorful pumpkins—and you might even meet some of the friendly farm animals. Don’t forget to indulge in local specialties like homemade jams, fresh dairy products, and baked goods. Between farm stops, immerse yourself in the area's vibrant arts scene. Visit renowned galleries and craft centers such as Tahawus, Jay Craft Center, Young's Studio, and Unicorn Square, where you'll discover a range of unique works from local artisans. From handcrafted pottery and textiles to contemporary paintings and sculptures, there's something to inspire every art lover. Whether you're seeking fresh flavors or artistic inspiration, this tour offers a rich and memorable experience that showcases the best of both farm life and creative culture.

For the most epic views imaginable, combine the vibrant fall foliage with the golden hour’s magical lighting. One of the top spots for leaf peeping is the Whiteface Memorial Veterans' Highway, open through October 14. Be sure to check the last car entry time to ensure you don’t miss out on this breathtaking drive. Even after October 14, there are still plenty of options for spectacular views with minimal effort. Consider hiking the Cobble Lookout trail, a less-than-2.5-mile round-trip hike with little elevation gain. The payoff? An impressive overlook, where you can enjoy panoramic vistas—thanks to the climbing you did in the car!

Top off your second day in the Whiteface Region by dining somewhere with a view so you can continue enjoying the golden glow on the leaves. Hungry Trout offers riverside dining on the West Branch AuSable River and NewVida Preserve boasts big picture windows iconic of an Adirondack A-frame.

Tucked within the heart of the Adirondack Mountains, this natural wonder offers a breathtaking experience with its cascading waterfalls, scenic trails, and stunning views of the Ausable River. The well-maintained paths and bridges provide easy access to the falls, making it suitable for visitors of all ages and skill levels. In addition to the magnificent waterfalls, visitors can enjoy educational displays about the area's geology and history. Whether your mini-cation is geared toward peaceful retreats or outdoor adventure, High Falls Gorge offers an unforgettable escape into the beauty of the Adirondacks.

The menu features a variety of fresh, locally-sourced dishes, from hearty breakfasts to satisfying lunches.
